Ever since I can remember my Mom, Theresa Hartman, and I have frequented, appreciated and been inspired by artists in galleries, studios and museums locally and abroad. From the Santa Cruz open studios, Los Angels Getty, New York Frescos, workshops in the south of France and touring other European countries; Mom and I are continually growing as artists and fellow creators. I credit Mom for imparting to me an incredible passion for art. The first Gallery we went to, outside my hometown of Vacaville, was the Jessel Gallery in Napa. It is not only still open but thriving today.
Darlene would spend all day playing with clay if time allowed but some other favorite mediums include wet and dry fresco, pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor pencil, acrylic sometimes with salt and coffee grounds added, oil painting, inktense, collage, decoupage, and other multi media works.
Since 2006, Darlene has been building and running the Alex Paints business, specializing in custom fine art, murals and portraits. Art-4-Fun…Enthusiastic Teaching creates Enthusiastic Learning, has been in the forefront since 2011. Continuing on the same path, most recently she is the Art Instructor at Holy Spirit Parochial School in Fairfield, Ca. Teaching “the littles” (Kinders) through eighth graders to embrace their magical abilities through art while instilling the many blessings available to us all when we hold the Holy Spirit close.
Theresa brings a lifetime of experience and education to us with works on display in the Philippians, Ireland, Florida, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, Oregon, Tennessee and California.
Her studies have taken her all over the world including an extended tour in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and France. Theresa studied the language and culture of the area, especially historic Cathedrals and Castles. Her areas of expertise include: old world egg tempera, iconography, wood, fresco, pastels, rosary design, calligraphy, toll painting, oil painting, French, German and Hebrew languages, architecture, drawing, painting and religious historical studies.
Her work has been celebrated by many local Solano County Catholic Churches, magazines and newspapers. She has work on display at St. Joseph’s Vacaville and St. Dominic’s Benicia. The most humbling accomplishment of her work lives at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Fairfield. It is the most impressive “Queen Mother and Baby King Icon” and is a must see located in the foyer of the church near the baptismal fount.
In the process of remodeling our kitchen, my husband and I had a vision for a mural on an accent wall. I gave Darlene two or three pictures of images I liked. Darlene and her mom brought our vision into reality with a beautiful mural depicting an old red barn in the middle of a vineyard. It looks as though you are actually looking out a window to this beautiful scenery. I cannot thank these two talented ladies enough for making our dream a reality.
Blue Ribbon Winner
Solano County Fair
I have been taking art classes both privately and in-group classes for ten years. I recently painted a picture with the aid of Darlene and won a blue ribbon in the Solano count fair. I couldn’t have done it without her.

Alex Paints Art-4-Fun Gives back: In the past we have supported many Solano County Schools by donating custom fine art, murals, portraits, art parties, and art workshops to their yearly auctions. We are happy these donations raise substantial amounts for various causes.
